Avenu Medical Introduces Ellipsys Fistula Creation System, Receives CMS Reimbursement Code

November 15, 2018—Avenu Medical, Inc.'s FDA-approved Ellipsys vascular access system was introduced at CiDA, the Controversies in Dialysis Access meeting held November 1–2 in Washington, DC. The company also advised that the Ellipsys system received its Medicare Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System C-code for reimbursement in a final rule by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, effective January 1, 2019.

Ellipsys is a catheter-based system that is designed for patients with end-stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis and provides access for arteriovenous fistula creation.

At the CiDA meeting, Alexandros Mallios, MD, of L’Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, France, performed a live procedure utilizing Ellipsys. The procedure was simulcast in real-time from Dr. Mallios’ operating room. Dr. Mallios commented in the company's announcement, “Ellipsys is truly revolutionary because it is a nonsurgical fistula creation that can provide good vascular access while reducing the pain and suffering associated with traditional fistula surgery."
