Bayer (Warrendale, PA) announced FDA approval for two new catheters for use with the Jetstream atherectomy system, a versatile debulking solution for the treatment of peripheral artery disease. The system catheters can be used to treat multiple lesion morphologies, from thrombus to challenging calcium deposits. Jetstream SC (single cutter) is available in diameters of 1.6 and 1.85 mm, and Jetstream XC (expandable cutter) is available in diameters of 2.1 mm (3 mm when expanded) and 2.4 mm (3.4 mm when expanded).
The Jetstream system consists of a single-use catheter with control pod and a reusable, compact console that mounts to a standard IV stand. The Jetstream system offers active aspiration, which continually removes excised stenotic material and thrombus from the treatment site, reducing the risk of embolism. Excised material is deposited into a collection bag located on the console.
