Hansen Medical, Inc. recently received FDA 510(k) clearance for a modified rail for the Magellan robotic system, which enables the company to launch the Magellan transport system. This system is designed to move the Magellan robotic arm on and off the procedure table and between procedure rooms. This advancement is designed to expand access to robotic procedures to more patients and physicians throughout a hospital by enabling the Magellan robotic arm to be shared among different procedure rooms that are equipped to support the robotic system. Hansen Medical clinical support personnel will operate the device during the initial commercialization period. The company is also in the process of seeking clearance to market the Magellan transport system in Europe.
