Bard Peripheral Vascular, Inc. has recently announced FDA approval of the 5-mm LifeStent biliary stent for vascular use. The LifeStent vascular stent is intended to improve luminal diameter in the treatment of symptomatic de novo or restenotic lesions up to 240 mm in length in the native superficial femoral artery (SFA) and proximal popliteal artery with reference vessel diameters ranging from 4 mm to 6.5 mm.

LifeStent vascular stent systems are composed of a self-expanding, nitinol stent with a unique helical design, engineered for bending, compression, and torsion with dynamic vessel conformability. With the new vascular indication of the 5-mm-diameter stent, the LifeStent vascular stent is now available in 5-mm, 6-mm, and 7-mm diameters and ranges in lengths from 20 mm to 170 mm. Additionally, the LifeStent Solo vascular stent is available in 6-mm and 7-mm diameters and a length of 200 mm.
