The field of neurointervention continues to expand, with emerging technological developments and numerous studies exploring new horizons across a diverse group of patients and conditions. Amidst the rapid growth, I am regularly impressed by the work of colleagues, from the suite next door to centers around the world, who are steadfast in their determination to design and carry out comprehensive trials and ensure new treatment strategies are appropriately evaluated and supported by data. I am also heartened by the strong sense of collegiality and collaboration among the specialties treating neurovascular conditions, many of whom have joined this special edition of Endovascular Today as authors and panelists sharing perspectives on the latest developments.
We lead off with Tudor G. Jovin, MD, and May Nour, MD, examining updated trends in stroke care, including the role of artificial intelligence (AI), the impact of the ZODIAC trial results, and what’s upcoming and exciting in the field.
Expanding on AI in stroke care, Rajeev D. Sen, MD, and Michael R. Levitt, MD, offer an assessment of AI technologies used in cerebrovascular disease, with a focus on diagnosis and outcome prediction for acute ischemic stroke, intracranial aneurysms, and brain arteriovenous malformations.
In a panel discussion, Adam S. Arthur, MD; Jason Davies, MD; and Violiza Inoa, MD, explore how trials for middle meningeal artery embolization expand treatment options for chronic subdural hematoma to include endovascular embolization.
Then, Kareem El Naamani, MD, and Pascal M. Jabbour, MD, convey experiences with intrasaccular devices and provide technical procedural pearls.
Team members from St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada, Natália Vasconcellos de Oliveira Souza, MD; Nicolle Cancelliere; and Vitor Mendes Pereira, MD, then share details about their protocol and algorithm for the diagnosis and management of pulsatile tinnitus at their dedicated Pulse Clinic.
We close our focus on neurointervention with a review from Saman Sizdahkhani, MD, and Reid Gooch, MD, of venous sinus stenting for the treatment of idiopathic intracranial hypertension, including risk factors, medical pathophysiology, technical pearls, and more.
In addition, the editorial team at Endovascular Today organized a Q&A with William A. Gray, MD; Joseph V. Lombardi, MD; and Adnan H. Siddiqui, MD, to share their insights on the recently reinvigorated and changing landscape of carotid artery revascularization.
As with every issue, a thought-provoking interview with a leading voice in vascular care brings us to a close. In this issue, Nima Kokabi, MD, discusses his collaborative and personalized medicine approach to interventional oncology, knowledge gaps for yttrium-90 dosimetry for hepatocellular carcinoma, updates on the Road2IR training program in East Africa, and many more exciting topics.
We are grateful for the insights and expertise shared by the renowned physicians who have given their time to be a part of this issue, and we hope you enjoy this update on some of the many recent advancements in the field of neurointervention. Stay tuned, because as you will see, many more are on the horizon!
