AB Medica to Distribute Hansen Medical's Robotic Systems in Italy

December 19, 2014—Hansen Medical, Inc. and AB Medica s.p.a. announced an exclusive distribution agreement for the Magellan and Sensei robotic systems in Italy. The company’s intravascular robotic technologies are designed to deliver accurate robotic catheter control and stability during a wide variety of endovascular and electrophysiology procedures. Both the Magellan and Sensei robotic systems provide for accurate navigation capabilities while allowing the physician to be seated comfortably, away from the radiation in a centralized, remote workstation. 

According to Hansen Medical, the Magellan robotic system is intended to be used to facilitate navigation in the peripheral vasculature and subsequently provide a conduit for manual placement of therapeutic devices. In 2012, the company received European CE Mark approval and 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its Magellan robotic system, including the catheter and accessories. The 6-F version of the device was cleared in Europe and the United States in 2014.

Sensei X robotic catheter system combines advanced levels of three-dimensional catheter control and three-dimensional visualization. Hansen Medical announced the commercial launch of the Sensei X in the European Union and the United States in October 2014.

The Sensei X is powered by a robotically controlled arm that allows for catheter navigation, stability, and positioning within the atria. The robotic catheter system, control catheters, and accessories are intended to facilitate manipulation, positioning, and control of Hansen Medical’s robotically steerable catheters for collecting electrophysiological data within the atria with electroanatomic mapping and recording systems using specified percutaneous mapping catheters, stated Hansen Medical.
