Adept Medical Launches Drape Support Device for Interventional Procedures

August 9, 2018—Adept Medical announced the launch of its Drape Support device, which is used to hold a sterile drape off a patient's face during a procedure on an imaging table, allowing the physician to maintain visual communication with the patient. The product is designed to offer many drape support options while providing a comfortable space for the patient underneath.

According to the company, the lightweight (1.2 kg) Drape Support device provides a wide range of placement options and can be used in interventional radiology and cardiology procedures such as antegrade femoral artery access, jugular artery access, transcutaneous pacing, and portacath insertion, or as an anesthesia screen. Additionally, the adjustable support surface can support the sterile drape and lightweight equipment such as syringes and kidney bowls.

With two articulating joints, the Drape Support device can be maneuvered to suit procedural and patient requirements for a variety of drape heights, positions, and orientations, depending on the procedure. Uses include:

  • For antegrade procedures, the support surface can be set over the patient's face, allowing the wires to be laid up over the body and also rest upon the surface.
  • For transjugular procedures, the patient's head can be positioned to look off to the side and the Drape Support device can be tilted down, allowing easy access into the neck. This also works for transcutaneous pacemaker implantation and tunnel lines.
  • For antegrade procedures, the clear support surface can be positioned at the patient’s side, allowing equipment to rest on the surface.
  • For addressing a common complaint of sore feet, especially if they are ulcerated with the drape resting on them, the Drape Support device can be positioned over the feet, supporting the weight of the drape and making the patient more comfortable.
