ArtVentive Introduces EOS Device in the United States
March 3, 2015—ArtVentive Medical Group, Inc. announced the introduction of the company’s EOS (endoluminal occlusion system) in the United States with the first procedure conducted at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Kelvin Hong, MD, and Anobel Tamrazi, MD, performed a splenic artery occlusion using the ArtVentive EOS device, which received US Food and Drug Administration approval in December 2014.
Dr. Hong, who is Division Chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, commented in the company’s press release, “The EOS device performed very well in a challenging clinical setting. We achieved immediate occlusion of the target vessel and concluded the case in rapid fashion. The unique ability to visualize the EOS device prior to deployment provides confidence in the placement of the device and enables precise delivery.”
According to the company, the ArtVentive EOS is a catheter-based, self-expandable platform that facilitates permanent or temporary occlusion of peripheral body lumens. The EOS device, which is designed to serve as an alternative to major surgery in certain cases, has the potential to address indications in several clinical areas, including peripheral and neurological vascular disorders, women’s health, interventional cardiology, and pulmonary and interventional oncology procedures, stated the company.
