Asahi Caravel Microcatheter Launched in the United States

June 7, 2016—Asahi Intecc Company, Ltd. recently announced the full launch of the Asahi Caravel microcatheter in the United States, where it is approved for both peripheral and coronary applications.

The company advised that the Asahi Caravel microcatheter is compatible with 0.014-inch guidewires and is available in 135-cm and 150-cm lengths. The device features the company’s Act One precision braided shaft, which provides flexibility and a low, 1.9-F crossing profile.

In the company’s press release, Craig Walker, MD, commented, “The Asahi Caravel microcatheter crossed a complex lesion as if there was no lesion at all. I think that this will become a very important part of complex peripheral interventions, particularly with trans-collateral crossing cases.”

Emmanouil S. Brilakis, MD, added, “In a coronary case, the Asahi Caravel microcatheter tracked very well through tortuous septal collateral without requiring rotation. Its low profile and hydrophilic coating make it an excellent tool for complex interventions.”

Dr. Walker is Founder, President, and Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Houma, Louisiana. Dr. Brilakis is Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at VA North Texas Healthcare System and Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas.
