AV Medical's Chameleon Angioplasty Balloon Catheter Cleared by FDA

October 26, 2015—AV Medical Technologies Ltd. announced that it has received US Food and Drug Administration clearance for the Chameleon angioplasty balloon catheter.

The Chameleon device features the company’s proximal injection port technology and allows for simultaneous balloon inflation and intravascular injection of fluids, while maintaining guidewire access. The proximal injection port technology incorporates catheter construction that allows for targeted fluid delivery with an intuitive, easy-to-use design, stated the company.

Anthony Verstandig, MD, who is Director of Interventional Radiology at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel, led the first clinical trial for the device. In the company’s press release, Dr. Verstandig commented, “I see the Chameleon as a significant advancement in balloon catheter technology. The proximal injection of fluids provides important clinical advantages over standard balloon catheters. Injecting contrast without removing the guidewire, as well as the ability to opacify vessels both downstream and upstream against the flow of blood, significantly reduces exchanges and results in a safer and more efficient procedure.”
