Avinger's Next-Generation Pantheris Image-Guided Atherectomy Device Receives CE Mark Approval

December 20, 2017—Avinger, Inc. announced European CE Mark approval for its next-generation Pantheris Lumivascular image-guided atherectomy system for the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD). The device features a simplified single balloon system for both apposition of the device and occlusion of blood flow, a stiffer shaft for increased pushability, a more robust nose cone with the option for more tissue storage capacity, and an enhanced cutter design.

According to the company, Lumivascular technology allows physicians to see from inside the artery during an atherectomy procedure by using optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging that is displayed on Avinger’s Lightbox console. Compared with X-ray imaging, the Lumivascular approach with real-time OCT allows physicians to more accurately navigate devices and treat PAD lesions, without exposing health care workers and patients to ionizing radiation.
