BD Acquires Straub Medical

June 1, 2020—BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) announced that it has completed the acquisition of Straub Medical AG, a privately-held medical device company based in Wangs, Switzerland. Straub develops, manufactures, and markets atherectomy and thrombectomy devices for the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and venous disease.

Straub's Rotarex S rotational atherectomy system is designed for use in acute, subacute, and chronic vessel blockages. In March 2020, the device was launched in the United States. It has been available in Europe for two decades.

The Aspirex S thrombectomy system provides continuous aspiration and removal of thrombotic material from blood vessels. The Aspirex S device is currently available in Europe and other global regions. The portfolio also includes additional adjunctive products used in the treatment of PAD and venous disease.
