BD’s Halo One Thin-Walled Guiding Sheath Offered in Additional Sizes
December 20, 2021—BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) announced the launch of additional sizes of the Halo One thin-walled guiding sheath for use in peripheral arterial and venous procedures requiring percutaneous introduction of intravascular devices.
According to the company, the portfolio expansion includes new introducer kits and 6-F guiding sheaths, which received clearance from the FDA. The device is now commercially available in 4-, 5-, and 6-F sizes with lengths of 10, 25, 45, 70, and 90 cm that are suitable for distal peripheral interventions.
“I’m excited about this portfolio expansion for the Halo One thin-walled guiding sheath,” commented John Phillips, MD, in BD’s press release. Dr. Phillips, who is System Director for the OhioHealth Vascular Institute in Columbus, Ohio, continued, “Now we have a thin-walled, braided sheath platform that’s capable of both distal and proximal interventions with the potential to help reduce access site complications.”
BD stated that the Halo One thin-walled guiding sheath consists of a thin-walled (1-F wall thickness) sheath made from braided single-lumen tubing, fitted with a female luer hub at the proximal end and a formed atraumatic distal tip. It is designed for femoral-, radial-, popliteal-, tibial-, and pedal-access procedures. The thin-walled design reduces the size of the arteriotomy compared to standard sheaths of equivalent French size, which can help to minimize access site complications.
