Biotronik Expands Line of Peripheral Fortress Introducer Sheaths

May 6, 2014—Biotronik announced the expansion of its line of reinforced 4-F–compatible Fortress introducer sheaths, which are now available in 5-F– and 6-F–compatible sizes in countries that recognize European CE Mark approval.

According to the company, the Fortress introducer sheaths are reinforced with a resilient and flexible stainless steel coil that provides flexibility and stability to introduce a balloon catheter or self-expanding stent to treat diseased arteries. The coil simultaneously provides reinforcement to prevent kinking.

Additionally, the 5-F and 6-F versions of the Fortress retain the 4-F version’s lubricious hydrophobic coating and smooth tapered tip design for easy insertion. They have been demonstrated to limit potential complications at the injection site.

Flavio Airoldi, MD, commented in Biotronik’s press release, “Essential functions of a sheath introducer are to allow me the flexibility to maneuver through complex vascular anatomy while maintaining stability to prevent any complications inserting and removing balloon catheters and stents.” Dr. Airoldi is with MultiMedica Hospital in Milan, Italy.
