Biotronik to Distribute CFI Medical's Zero-Gravity Weightless Radiation Protection System

May 11, 2015—Biotronik announced an agreement to be the United States distributor of CFI Medical’s Zero-Gravity weightless radiation protection system.

According to Biotronik, CFI’s Zero-Gravity system is a suspended lead body shield that provides optimal, weightless radiation protection without impeding the physician’s freedom of movement. The device is intended to address the concerns of radiation exposure from fluoroscopy, along with the physical strain of wearing heavy lead aprons for radiation protection.

Biotronik will exhibit the Zero-Gravity system and allow physicians to use it while simulating procedures at the Heart Rhythm Society’s 2015 annual scientific sessions being held May 13–16 in Boston, Massachusetts.

In the company’s press release, Colin Movsowitz, MD, commented, “Zero-Gravity has proven to be an immense benefit to the electrophysiologist, as well as the hospital and patients, by enabling interventional procedures to be performed without the burden of heavy lead.”

He added, “Fatigue levels are drastically reduced, supporting increased focus on the tasks at hand and often enabling more daily procedures with negligible radiation exposure. I am personally grateful that long-term orthopedic and radiation concerns have been alleviated and encourage my colleagues to consider the benefits of Zero-Gravity.” Dr. Movsowitz is from Cardiology Consultants of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
