Boston Scientific Launches Neuroform EZ Stent System in US and Europe
July 26, 2010—Boston Scientific Corporation (Natick, MA) announced the commercial launch of the Neuroform EZ stent system in the United States and Europe. The Neuroform EZ is the company's fourth-generation intracranial aneurysm stent system designed for use in conjunction with endovascular coiling to treat wide-necked aneurysms. The device features Boston Scientific's Segmental Expansion technology to enhance stent anchoring and stability, the same hybrid cell design of previous-generation Neuroform stents, and a simplified, single-operator delivery system to facilitate preparation, delivery, and positioning of the stent. The Neuroform EZ is engineered to provide flexibility and conformability, especially in tortuous brain anatomy, the company stated.
“The Neuroform EZ Stent System performed well in a very challenging first procedure,” commented Demetrius Lopes, MD, who performed the first implant of the device in the United States. “The smooth transfer of the stent into the catheter, combined with excellent support, stability, and visibility, facilitated accurate stent placement.”
“The improved delivery system of the Neuroform EZ Stent helped me to place the stent exactly where I planned,” stated Professor Laurent Spelle, MD, who performed the first implant in Europe. “In my experience, Boston Scientific's new system is easier to use compared to its previous microdelivery system and should offer benefits for both physicians and patients.”
