Cagent Vascular Launches Larger Diameters of Serranator PTA Catheters
October 8, 2025—Cagent Vascular announced the United States commercial launch of 7- and 8-mm diameters of the Serranator percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) serration balloon catheter.
The company stated that the new sizes expand the Serranator PTA system’s clinical utility to larger vessels such as the iliac arteries, superficial femoral artery, arteriovenous fistula interventions, and other complex peripheral anatomies. The Serranator now covers a full range of vessel sizes—from below-the-knee to large proximal arteries and arteriovenous fistula.
According to Cagent Vascular, the Serranator combines standard balloon angioplasty with embedded serration elements that create multiple longitudinal lines of interrupted scoring along the arterial wall. This approach is intended to enable predictable vessel expansion while minimizing barotrauma and improving luminal gain.
“The addition of the 7- and 8-mm Serranator balloons gives us new options for treating patients with large-vessel peripheral artery disease,” commented Neil Poulsen, MD, in Cagent Vascular’s press release.
Dr. Poulsen, who is from Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, New Jersey, continued, “I’ve found serration technology to provide controlled, effective expansion with less vessel trauma and recoil compared to conventional angioplasty. Having these larger sizes available gives us a versatile tool that can be applied in real-world cases where options have historically been limited.”
