Large-Diameter Gore Excluder AAA Endoprosthesis Gains CE Mark Approval
December 3, 2012—Gore & Associates, Inc. (Flagstaff, AZ) has received CE Mark approval for the new large-diameter 35-mm trunk-ipsilateral leg and 36-mm aortic extender components of the Gore Excluder abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) endoprosthesis. The new components are designed to treat AAAs in patients with an infrarenal aortic inner neck diameter range of 30 to 32 mm, which expands the overall treatment range to 19–32 mm.
According to the company, the Gore Excluder AAA endovascular stent graft's new large-diameter components reduce access vessel requirements. The 35-mm trunk-ipsilateral leg and 36-mm aortic extender are compatible with an 18-F Gore DrySeal sheath. The Excluder AAA device is positioned using the Gore C3 delivery system. Mo Hamady, MD, of St. Mary's Hospital in London, United Kingdom, commented on the device in the company's press announcement.
“Having a wide range of sizing options available for various anatomies simplifies the decision making for interventionists,” stated Dr. Hamady. “This new size allows more patients with large aortic neck diameters to benefit from endovascular treatment.”
