Concentric Medical's Trevo System Treats Acute Ischemic Stroke
January 12, 2010—Concentric Medical, Inc. (Mountain View, CA) announced that the first cases have been performed using its Trevo thrombus retrieval system in Europe. The device's main component is the company’s Stentriever, a new-generation of retrieval devices to remove clots that cause stroke. Tommy Andersson, MD, PhD, head of Neurointervention at Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, completed one of the first cases using the Trevo system.
"The new Trevo system was remarkably effective," commented Dr. Andersson. "The Trevo was also very easy to use—this is key in being able to rapidly restore blood flow for patients suffering an acute ischemic stroke. I believe the Trevo system may represent a great advance in the treatment of this potentially devastating condition."
According to Concentric Medical, the company has incorporated its experience in developing interventional stroke devices into the design of the Trevo system to make thrombus removal an easier, faster, and more predictable procedure. The company currently markets the Merci retriever and DAC catheters.
