Cook Launches Coda EVAR Balloon Catheter in Japan

April 13, 2010—Cook Medical (Bloomington, IN) announced the launch of the Coda balloon catheter in Japan for both optimal expansion of Cook stent grafts and temporary occlusion of large blood vessels during endovascular aortic repair procedures.

According to the company, Coda's large bilumen shaft is engineered to provide additional support during procedures and to facilitate rapid balloon inflation and deflation rates. The device is available as a 32-mm-diameter balloon with a 100-cm-long catheter and as a 40-mm-diameter balloon with a 120-cm-long catheter. Coda is made of a polyurethane semicompliant balloon material to reduce possible allergic reactions in patients with latex hypersensitivity. Radiopaque markerbands are placed at the proximal and distal segments of the balloon to allow precise positioning. Coda's long, tapered-tip design offers excellent over-the-wire trackability to minimize blood vessel trauma, the company stated.
