April 11, 2024—Cook Medical announced it has been awarded an Electronic Catalog (ECAT) contract with the United States Department of Defense (DOD) for implantable medical devices.

According to Cook Medical, the contract includes the company’s Zilver PTX drug-eluting peripheral stent, Zenith aortic endograft, and associated interventional devices to treat patients with vascular disease.

The contract, which is for 1 year with four 1-year extension options, will streamline the process for the DOD to obtain these products so they can more quickly treat military service members, stated the company.

Ross Harvey, Vice President of Supply Chain at Cook, stated in the company’s press release, “With this contract, Cook implantable devices will be available to all United States DOD hospitals in the United States [including] Hawaii and Alaska and will expand to cover all overseas hospitals in the coming months. Contracts like this one can take advantage of our global network, which helps get these products into the hands of physicians faster so DOD service members can receive the medical care they need.”

As described on the DOD’s Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) website, ECAT was developed by the DLA Troop Support’s Medical Supply Chain to streamline its business practices and expand its range of procurement options. ECAT is an internet solution that uses the latest technology for ordering, distribution, and payment, providing DOD and other federal agencies access to multiple manufacturers’ and distributors’ commercial catalogs at discounted prices.

In October 2023, Cook announced it entered into a third contract with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, also for implantable devices, and it streamlined the supply chain process.
