Cook’s Zenith TX2 TAA Endovascular Graft With Pro-Form Approved in Canada

January 6, 2010—Cook Medical (Bloomington, IN) announced that Health Canada, the nation’s regulatory agency, has approved the Zenith TX2 TAA endovascular graft with Pro-Form for performing thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair. The introduction of the TX2 with Pro-Form follows the company’s launch of the original TX2 endograft in Canada earlier this year.

According to Cook, the technology is specifically designed for patients with tight aortic arches that are traditionally difficult to seal. TX2 with Pro-Form utilizes an improved delivery system that allows physicians to achieve proximal conformity and apposition of the device to the aortic wall, the company stated.

"Tight aortic arches in thoracic aortic aneurysm patients, many of whom are women, pose a particular challenge to endovascular treatment," commented Tom Forbes, MD. "Often in these cases, a so-called ‘bird’s beak’ gap can form between the endograft and the arch. TX2 with Pro-Form lends the physician additional control during deployment to help ensure the endograft conforms to and presses against the aortic wall, thereby repairing the aneurysm and restoring blood flow."
