Cordis’ Radianz Radial Peripheral System Used in First-in-Human Procedure

June 16, 2022—Cordis announced that the first-in-human use of the Radianz radial peripheral system was performed by Jihad Mustapha, MD, at Advanced Cardiac & Vascular Centers (ACV) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Mustapha is Chief Executive Officer and Director of Endovascular Intervention at ACV Centers for Amputation Prevention.

According to the company, the Radianz solution includes the Brite Tip Radianz guiding sheath, which is designed to optimize lower extremity lesion access; the Saberx Radianz percutaneous transluminal angioplasty catheter to facilitate treatment; and the Cordis SMART Radianz vascular stent system to help maintain patency for lasting favorable outcomes. The company announced FDA approval of the SMART Radianz system in March 2022.

The Radianz radial peripheral system is intended for radial access, which has been shown to produce fewer vascular complications and higher patient satisfaction than femoral approaches, noted Cordis.

The company advised that the Radianz radial peripheral system portfolio is expected to launch later this year in the United States and in the near future in Japan.

“My colleagues at ACV and I are pleased to have successfully performed the first procedures using the Radianz radial peripheral system,” commented Dr. Mustapha in Cordis’ press release. “We believe this portfolio represents true innovation in meeting the need for radial access solutions for lower extremity intervention.”
