Covidien Launches HydroFinity Peripheral Hydrophilic Guidewire
February 17, 2014—Covidien (Mansfield, MA) has announced the introduction of the new HydroFinity hydrophilic guidewire to its peripheral vascular product line. Designed for use in catheter placement and other procedures to treat vascular diseases, the company describes the HydroFinity guidewire as offering exceptional coating durability and lubricity, 1:1 torque response, predictable prolapse, and kink resistance. Additionally, a torque device is included with every wire.
“The HydroFinity guidewire handled tortuous anatomy and performed quite well in heavily calcified lesions, as well as chronic total occlusions,” said Carlos Mena, MD, FACC, FSCAI, in the company's press release, also noting that the HydroFinity performed well as the leading wire. Dr. Mena is with the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University and Medical Director of Vascular Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
“Successfully navigating tortuous vessels and crossing lesions with confidence can reduce both procedure time and complications,” said Brennan Marilla, vice president and general manager, Endovascular, Covidien. “This new wire offers the handling and performance that physicians expect from best-in-class hydrophilic guidewires. We are pleased to offer a solution that meets the needs of our customers on a variety of levels."
