Covidien Launches Mahurkar 12-F Triple-Lumen Catheter
March 16, 2011—Covidien (Mansfield, MA) announced the market launch of the Mahurkar 12-F high-pressure triple-lumen catheter, part of the company's family of acute dialysis catheters. This new family of triple-lumen catheters is indicated for hemodialysis, apheresis, infusion, central venous pressure monitoring, and high-pressure contrast injection.
According to the company, these catheters offer a third lumen that keeps an independent port ready for blood access, high-pressure contrast injection, central venous pressure monitoring, and fluid or medication delivery between dialysis treatments. The catheters have a laser-cut side slot to minimize potential for positional occlusion and clot formation by minimizing debris attachment. The thermosensitive material provides stiffness during insertion and softens up to 50% postinsertion for vessel conformity and patient comfort.
