Dr. Alda L. Tam Named SIR President for 2023-2024

March 8, 2023—The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) announced incoming officers of its 2023-2024 Board of Directors during the society’s annual Members’ Business Meeting held at SIR 2023, its annual scientific meeting on March 4-9, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Alda L. Tam, MD, assumed the office of President of SIR. Dr. Tam is an interventional radiologist and Professor in the Department of Interventional Radiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

“This is an exciting time for our specialty,” commented Dr. Tam in the society’s press release. “SIR is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, our first classes of IR residents are graduating, and our specialty is growing and maturing at a rapid pace. In response, SIR and SIR Foundation are investing in tools, education, research, and resources to ensure we continue this forward momentum. I look forward to working with members across SIR to ensure our seat at the table so we can deliver the best for our patients.”

Other incoming officers of SIR’s 2023-2024 Board of Directors include President-Elect Robert J. Lewandowski, MD, with Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Illinois; Secretary Robert A. Lookstein, MD, with Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, New York; and Immediate Past-President Parag J. Patel, MD, with Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Additionally, J. David Prologo, MD, was appointed as Director-at-Large to the SIR Board of Directors.

Elected positions to the SIR and SIR Foundation Steering Council include Jason C. Hoffmann, MD, as Membership Division Councilor; Raj Pyne, MD, as Practice Management Division Councilor; Rajesh Shah, MD, as Quality and Performance Improvement Division Councilor; and Luke R. Wilkins, MD, as Statements and Guidelines Division Councilor.

Elected positions to Clinical Specialty Councils include Brian J. Schiro, MD, as PAD Council Vice Chair; William T. Kuo, MD, as Venous Council Vice Chair; and Keith Pereira, MD, as Women's Health Council Vice Chair.

The SIR Foundation board appointed Maureen P. Kohi, MD, as Chair of the SIR Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Kohi is the Ernest H. Wood Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Dr. Kohi stated in the SIR press release, “I am honored and pleased to lead SIR Foundation at this time of growth and change as we continue to drive the research, education, and innovation necessary to build the future of interventional radiology.”

The SIR Foundation also appointed Clifford R. Weiss, MD, to its Board of Directors as Research Grants and Education Division Chair.
