Emba Medical's Hourglass Peripheral Embolization Plug Approved in Europe

July 29, 2015—Emba Medical Limited announced that the company has received CE Mark certification for its Hourglass peripheral embolization plug, which the company will begin to market in the European Union. The Hourglass is designed to provide precise, secure, over-the-wire delivery and immediate occlusion with a single integrated device. The device is not approved for sale in the United States, advised the company.

Interventional radiologist Andrew Cragg, MD, a codeveloper of the Hourglass, commented in the company’s press release, “The Hourglass device is designed to provide immediate occlusion in a wide range of vessel sizes with a single device. The device’s unique design was created to take advantage of natural hemodynamic forces to provide immediate, focal, stable occlusions.”
