Embolx Soldier High Flow Microcatheter Cleared by FDA
February 29, 2024—Embolx Inc., a developer of microcatheters for arterial embolization procedures, announced that the FDA has granted clearance for the company’s Soldier high flow microcatheter for localized drug delivery in vascular interventions.
Soldier will be available in 2- and 2.5-F sizes and will come in three lengths—130, 155, and 165 cm. The 2-F size offers a 0.022-inch lumen, and the 2.5-F size offers a 0.027-inch lumen.
According to the company, the Soldier microcatheter combines the properties of larger catheters in a smaller profile. The catheter’s torque response and radiopaque distal tip provide accurate curved tip placement and visualization of rotation position.
Embolx stated that the Soldier microcatheter was created using the company’s ultra-thin wall (UTW) technology and advanced design initially developed for its flagship Sniper product. The UTW technology allows microcatheters to be smaller in outer diameter while maintaining the largest internal lumens improving flow rates by almost two times. Using multiple discrete longitudinal sections, the design provides exceptional pushability, torquability, and trackability.
The new microcatheter platform technology will provide the basis for a pipeline of new products, noted Embolx.
