Endologix Vela Proximal Endograft System Launched in the United States
February 10, 2014—Endologix, Inc. (Irvine, CA) announced the United States launch of the Vela proximal endograft system for the treatment of proximal aortic neck anatomies with endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) using the Endologix AFX endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) system.
According to the company, the Vela’s delivery system and circumferential graft line marker provide interventionists with enhanced visibility and greater control over the implant procedure. Endologix stated that these enhancements lead to better precision and predictability of graft placement when coupled with the company’s ActiveSeal technology. The device is designed for use in EVAR procedures in a broad range of aortic neck anatomies.
Julio Rodriguez, MD, a vascular surgeon at the Arizona Heart Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, performed one of the first Vela procedures in the United States. In the Endologix press release, Dr. Rodriguez commented, “The Vela delivery system is very intuitive and the endograft has excellent visibility. Our early experience has been very positive and we are planning to use the Vela proximal endograft in a live EVAR procedure on February 12, 2014 at the iCON meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.” The iCON 2014: International Congress on Endovascular Interventions is being held February 9–13 in Phoenix, Arizona.
