ESVS Seeks Applications from EVST Members to Join Vascular Malformation Management Guideline Writing Committee

January 17, 2023—The European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) announced the start of the writing process for a new clinical practice guideline developed jointly with VASCERN.

ESVS is seeking a member of European Vascular Surgeons in Training (EVST) to serve as a representative on the writing committee for the ESVS-VASCERN Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Vascular Malformations.

According to ESVS, the society’s Executive Committee has decided that every writing committee can have a “trainee” representative. The goal is to have one EVST representative appointed for each of these guideline writing committees following an application process.

The society advised that there are no strict clinical or academic requirements for being selected as an EVST representative for the Writing Committee. However, because the EVST member is equal to other members of the Writing Committee, and because the guideline writing process will demand academic skills and reviewing of a lot of literature, previous experience in academic writing and research is a requirement, in addition to a personal interest in the topic.

These points will be considered when reviewing the applications, along with relevant details of any involvement applicants have had in EVST activities. Applications will be reviewed, and the top three candidates will be presented to the ESVS Guidelines Committees and Chairs of each guideline for approval.

ESVS noted that the guideline writing process will take an average of 18 months but can extend beyond this and includes four prescheduled key meetings (three kick-off meetings online and a follow-up meeting face to face) as well as regular ad hoc catch-up meetings, with mandatory attendance. The traveling and accommodation expenses will be covered by ESVS. The first of the three kick-off meetings for the vascular malformations guideline writing committee is scheduled for March 21 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (CET).

Although being a writing committee member of these guidelines is an educative experience, members should be prepared to work according to a schedule, noted ESVS.

To apply, EVST members should send a curriculum vitae with cover letter highlighting previous activities in the ESVS/EVST and previous scientific/academic expertise (specifically in the subject of the guideline) to info@esvs.org before noon, 12:00 PM (CET), on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. More information can be obtained by emailing (jointly) Ciarra McFerran at ciara@esvs.org and Riikka Tulamo at riikka.tulamo@hus.fi.
