ESVS Seeks Members for European Research Hub Committee

July 18, 2022—The European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) announced that it is seeking members for its European Research Hub (ERH) Committee. The deadline for applications is August 30. After members are chosen, an initial meeting of the committee will be held in November 2022.

ESVS members who are willing to work with the ESVS to materialize this project are asked to submit applications.

Martin Björck, MD, senior editor of the ESVS’s European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, is chair of the task force that developed the proposal on behalf of the Executive Committee of the ESVS.

According to the ESVS press release, the immediate activities to be developed by this new committee are the following:

  • Evaluate research proposals from European researchers, preferably multicenter and multinational trials, according to standard operating procedure (SOP) to be developed, providing informed peer review and endorsement to support external funding. Proposals can be initiated by individual researchers, groups, and the ESVS Guidelines and Vascunet committees.
  • Facilitate the implementation of good-quality proposals.
  • Maintain and continuously update a list of interested researchers/institutions that can be invited to participate when a proposal for multicenter research is endorsed.
  • Maintain a contact list of experienced epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and other experts that can be consulted when a trial is designed.
  • Facilitate contact with established research facilities. This can be helpful when the trial is conducted, such as data management, randomization, production of placebo tablets, etc.
  • Organize educational activities during ESVS and other meetings.

ESVS anticipates that, at a later stage, the ERH will have enough financial and organizational strength to perform multinational randomized controlled trials, addressing important outstanding clinical issues that lack evidence to enable evidence-based clinical decision-making.

More information outlining details of the project updated in September 2021 can be found on the ESVS website here; however, ESVS noted that the proposed timeline provided in that document has been delayed.

For the applications due August 30, ESVS requires the following:

  1. A letter of intention describing why you would like to work on this project (maximum 2 pages)
  2. A general curriculum vitae with a focus on previous experience in planning and implementing research projects (maximum 4 pages)
  3. A list of publications, highlighting the 10 most important publications for this task.

Finally, ESVS advised that applicants should also review the SOP for committee management, online here.
