Eximo Medical Funding Will Support First-in-Human Studies of the Cathi Hybrid Catheter System
August 6, 2015—Eximo Medical Ltd., an Israel-based developer of a hybrid catheter, announced the completion of its Series A funding round of $1.6 million. The funding will support first-in-human studies of Eximo’s Cathi hybrid catheter system and its catheters for the treatment of peripheral artery disease that will be conducted in Europe and Israel beginning in the fourth quarter of 2015.
The company stated that the Cathi hybrid catheter is connected to a pulsed laser system that operates at 355 nm UV. The catheter’s tip combines laser ablation capabilities with a mechanical blunt blade. This combination is designed to improve accuracy, enable precision when passing through a vessel blockage—regardless of the type of lesion or size of the vessel, and potentially reduce the risk of vessel perforation. Eximo’s first set of catheters will offer a range of solutions for different blockage pathologies during atherectomy procedures in patients with peripheral artery disease.
The funding round was led by Accelmed, along with the participation of the Alfred Mann Institute at the Technion, the Technion R&D Foundation Ltd., and a private investor.
