FDA Clears Galt's VTI Valved Tearaway Introducer
May 2, 2012—Galt Medical (Garland, TX) has received US Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance to market the Galt VTI valved tearaway introducer for vascular access and catheter placement.
The Galt VTI tearaway introducer features a compact design with an ergonomic, low-profile integrated valve for introducing or providing access for other medical devices to enter into a patient's vascular system, reducing the risk of an air embolism and leakage. The company expects a launch for the VTI in the second half of 2012. Galt Medical is a subsidiary of Theragenics Corporation (Buford, GA).
In other company news, Galt recently announced the launch of the Microslide pediatric introducer. The Microslide line of devices features tearaway sheath introducers, small-diameter guidewires, and short needles. They are to be used primarily for procedures involving smaller patients including infants, children, and adolescents. The 2- and 3-F Microslide introducers and small accessories aim to provide clinicians with the ability to introduce vascular access devices into smaller vessels, stated the company.
