Merit Medical's ASAP Thrombus Aspiration Catheter Receives FDA Clearance

March 15, 2011—Merit Medical Systems, Inc. (South Jordan, UT) announced that it has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its ASAP thrombus aspiration catheter. The company stated that the device, which has been available in Europe, will be launched immediately in the United States.

According to the company, the ASAP aspiration catheter kit is designed for the quick removal of fresh, soft emboli and thrombus from vessels of the arterial system. The ASAP kit contains a dual-lumen rapid exchange catheter with related accessories. The ASAP is a single-extrusion, 100% wire-braided, kink-resistant catheter with a large aspiration lumen to facilitate quick aspiration.
