First Patient Treated in Medtronic Aortic-Cydar AI Collaboration
August 24, 2023—Medtronic announced the treatment of the first patient in the company’s global pilot program in collaboration between its Aortic division and Cydar Medical.
The pilot program includes up to 40 sites globally, with a goal of developing predictive analytics to support procedural planning by assessing endoleak risks and sac regression probability, among other factors. Cydar Maps technology can be used to support preoperative planning, intraprocedural guidance, and postprocedural review via three-dimensional mapping of soft tissue, with artificial intelligence used to update the map throughout the patient journey, the companies note.
The first case was performed at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois, by vascular surgeon George Pontikis, MD.
“This cutting-edge technology empowers us with the ability to navigate complex vascular procedures with greater precision, ensuring optimal outcomes for our patients,” said Dr. Pontikis in the company announcement. “We are honored to be a part of this innovative program and are eager to contribute to the advancement of endovascular aortic surgery.”
