First Procedure in Asia Performed With B. Braun's VascuFlex Multi-Loc Multiple Stent Delivery System

May 21, 2018—B. Braun Melsungen AG announced the initial use in Asia of the company's VascuFlex Multi-Loc multiple stent delivery system (MSDS), which is designed to deliver up to six short stents using a single device during a peripheral vascular intervention in the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD). By enabling spot stenting (placing short individual stents only where they are necessary), the VascuFlex Multi-Loc device helps the vessel to maintain its natural movement, especially in the moving segments of the femoropopliteal region.

The peripheral vascular intervention procedure was performed on May 18 at Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by Shaiful Azmi bin Yahaya, MD, Deputy Head of Cardiology Department at INJ; Kumara Ganesan, Consultant Cardiologist at IJN; and Ralf Langhoff, MD, who is Head of Angiology and Vascular Medicine at Sankt-Gertrauden Hospital in Berlin, Germany.

According to the company, data from the LOCOMOTIVE all-comers registry demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of the VascuFlex Multi-Loc system in the treatment of PAD patients with complex and long lesions in the femoropopliteal vessel. Clinical results showed that after 6 months, an overall 90% of patients with challenging conditions did not require additional intervention measures and that 100% of the individual stents were successfully released. Additional data demonstrated that spot stenting via MSDS reduces the amount of metal implantation by 50% when compared with the full metal jacket strategy, reported B. Braun.
