Galvanize’s Aliya EX System Used in First Commercial Procedures for Ablation of Soft Tissue
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- The first commercial procedures using the FDA-cleared Aliya EX system were completed through both percutaneous and endoscopic delivery.
- The system delivers high-voltage, short-duration electrical energy to induce nonthermal regulated cell death during the surgical ablation of soft tissue.
- Galvanize Therapeutics stated that Aliya EX provides up to two times larger ablation diameter and as much as a seven times increase in ablation volume.
August 17, 2026—Galvanize Therapeutics, Inc., a developer of pulsed electric field (PEF) therapies for oncology and chronic lung disease, announced the completion of the first commercial procedures using its Aliya EX system.
The company noted that the procedures are the first clinical use of the Aliya EX system after the device received FDA 510(k) clearance for soft tissue ablation in May 2026 and the first commercial procedures across the Aliya PEF platform's two primary delivery pathways: percutaneous delivery and endoscopic delivery.
According to Galvanize Therapeutics, Aliya EX expands the capability of the Aliya PEF platform by delivering up to two times larger ablation diameter, resulting in as much as a sevenfold increase in ablation volume, while maintaining the defining attributes of Aliya PEF. The platform delivers electrical pulses that induce nonthermal regulated cell death, preserving surrounding tissue architecture and remaining compatible with existing oncologic diagnostic workflows and standard therapies, stated Galvanize Therapeutics.
The first percutaneous procedure was performed by Joseph Mammarapallil, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina.
The first endoscopic procedure was performed by Justin Thomas, MD, Director of Interventional Pulmonology at Eisenhower Health in Rancho Mirage, California.
“Aliya EX allows us to offer PEF to patients who previously may not have been candidates,” commented Dr. Mammarapallil in the company’s press release. “It gives us a larger ablation zone while preserving the predictable, nonthermal energy delivery that have become hallmarks of the Aliya platform.”
Dr. Thomas added, “Many of the patients I see have exhausted multiple treatment options. Aliya EX expands the patients I can consider for PEF ablation while maintaining the favorable safety profile and unique immunostimulatory potential that first drew me to this technology.”
