Gore Announces 2014 Pioneers in Performance for North America
November 19, 2014—Gore & Associates announced the North American physicians being honored with the company’s 2014 Pioneers in Performance award. The biennial award acknowledges exceptional work in the field of vascular and endovascular therapy, including aortic and lower limb bypass and dialysis access surgery.
According to the company, the 2014 nominees were selected by past award recipients in four categories that correspond with different aspects of clinical collaboration. The broader medical community chose the honorees through popular vote on www.pioneersinperformance.com. The awards were announced at a special celebration during the 41st VEITHsymposium held November 18–22, 2014, in New York, New York.
Jose I. Almeida, MD, was chosen for the award recognizing “Commitment to Ongoing Learning.” Dr. Almeida is a vascular surgeon and Founder of the Miami Vein Center in Miami, Florida.
Jaafer Golzar, MD, was recognized for “Dedication to Sharing Knowledge with Peers and Patients.” Dr. Golzar is an interventional cardiologist at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Michael R. Jaff, DO, was awarded for “Dedication to Creating Consensus Within the Medical Community.” Dr. Jaff is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
Herbert D. Aronow, MD, was honored for “Dedication to Analysis of Clinical Outcomes.” Dr. Aronow is Director of the Comprehensive Vascular Program at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan
In the company’s announcement, VEITHsymposium Chair Frank Veith, MD, commented, “Pioneers in Performance recognizes the incredible achievements made by leaders in our field. This year’s award recipients are of the finest in our industry and exemplify what it means to be a true pioneer in the pursuit to advance open and endovascular surgery and improve patient outcomes.” Dr. Veith is Professor of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic and New York University and The William J. von Liebig Chair in Vascular Surgery at New York Medical Center.
