IASIOS Accredits First Center in United States for Interventional Oncology
November 17, 2023—The International Accreditation System for Interventional Oncology Services (IASIOS) announced the first IASIOS-accredited center in North America. The Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, marks IASIOS’s entry into the United States market.
According to its press release, IASIOS seeks to support the standardization of interventional oncology care worldwide, with a mission to make it safe and effective in facilities around the globe. IASIOS has accredited centers in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South America. More information is available on the IASIOS website, www.iasios.org.
“The primary purpose of IASIOS is to improve the care that interventional radiologists provide to patients with cancer,” commented Prof. Andreas Adam, MBBS, Chairperson of the IASIOS Steering Board, in the press release, “The global nature of this accreditation system is one of its greatest strengths, as it emphasizes certain universal concepts, such as the need for interventional radiologists to look after their own patients.”
Prof. Adam continued, “The enrollment of the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology into IASIOS is a major milestone, because the United States is the birthplace of interventional radiology and the largest provider of interventional radiology services. We are delighted to welcome the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, as its enrollment is a perfect demonstration of the universality of the principles on which IASIOS is founded.”
Prof. Jack Jennings, MD, with the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, stated in the press release, “IASIOS raises the bar for our institution to bring the most up-to-date interventional oncology practices to our patients for the best outcomes. We benefit from this accreditation by being linked to other high-level interventional oncology institutions. We are the first United States institution to become associated with this esteemed accreditation and hope to lead the way for other interventional oncology practices in the United States.”
