Koya Medical Names Dr. Thomas Maldonado as Chief Medical Officer
December 27, 2022—Koya Medical, maker of the Dayspring compression system for the treatment of lymphedema and chronic venous conditions, announced the appointment of Thomas Maldonado, MD, as Chief Medical Officer and a member of the company’s Medical Advisory Board. Dayspring is an FDA-cleared, nonpneumatic active dynamic compression treatment designed for patient mobility.
According to the company, Dr. Maldonado has been a leading vascular surgeon at a premier academic medical center in New York, New York, for more than two decades. He will maintain his clinical practice as he joins Koya Medical. Additionally, Dr. Maldonado has served as president of numerous national and regional vascular societies. He is Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
As a professor of surgery, an innovator in endovascular therapy, and a prolific researcher with more than 150 publications in the field of vascular surgery, Dr. Maldonado is nationally and internationally recognized for his surgical skill as well as his commitment to education and advancing patient care, stated the company.
In the company’s press release, Dr. Maldonado stated he is “honored to serve as Chief Medical Officer for Koya Medical and looks forward to continuing to advance the Dayspring to help even more people with lymphedema and venous diseases maintain mobility while receiving effective compression treatment.”
The company noted that the addition of Dr. Maldonado strengthens Koya Medical’s clinical advisory board, which is led by Stanley Rockson, MD, Cardiologist and Professor in the Falk Cardiovascular Research Center at Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California.
Koya Medical’s Dayspring system has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA to treat lymphedema, primary lymphedema, postmastectomy edema, edema following trauma and sports injuries, postimmobilization edema, venous insufficiency, venous stasis ulcers, or arterial and diabetic leg ulcers, lipedema, and phlebolymphedema and other similar conditions that impact lymphatic flow in the upper and lower extremities. Dayspring is also indicated to reduce wound healing time and treatment and assist in healing stasis dermatitis, advised the company.
