Laerdal Medical Launches SimMan Vascular Simulation Training System

May 9, 2018—Laerdal Medical, in partnership with Mentice, has developed the SimMan Vascular simulation training solution for diagnostic and therapeutic endovascular procedures. The company introduced SimMan Vascular at the Simulation User Network Conference held April 30 to May 2 in Schaumburg, Illinois.

SimMan Vascular is an integrated emergency patient and endovascular procedure simulator that is built on Laerdal's SimMan 3G platform with Mentice's VIST endovascular simulation technology.

According to the company, the simulator can help to provide immersive training to all members of the acute care team, including endovascular specialists, catheterization lab teams, interventional radiologists, resuscitation teams, and prehospital care providers.

SimMan Vascular incorporates all aspects in the critical care areas of vascular trauma (REBOA [resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta] and pelvic bleeding), acute myocardial infarction (ballooning, stenting, and temporary pacing), and acute ischemic stroke (thrombectomy and aspiration).

SimMan Vascular provides endovascular access as well as SimMan 3G's full cardiovascular life support and treatment capabilities, including quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation feedback, convulsions, bleeding and wounds, radiofrequency identification technology for administered medications and airway devices, and reactive eyes.

The simulator comes with scenarios for acute myocardial infarction, acute ischemic stroke, and vascular trauma. All scenarios are designed with team training in mind to help improve time management, decision-making, communications, and transitions through each level of care from the onset of symptoms to the catheterization lab, advised Laerdal Medical.
