Medrad Acquires Pathway Medical
September 1, 2011—Bayer HealthCare (Leverkusen, Germany) announced that its affiliate, Medrad, Inc. (Warrendale, PA), has acquired Pathway Medical Technologies, Inc. (Kirkland, WA). Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Bayer HealthCare stated that this acquisition strengthens its Medrad Interventional (Indianola, PA) business by expanding its presence in the field of vascular intervention technologies. Pathway Medical's products focus on mechanical atherectomy to treat peripheral arterial disease. Pathway's Jetstream devices use differential cutting to remove plaque without harming healthy tissue.
The Jetstream products will join Medrad's other offerings for peripheral arterial disease treatment, including the AngioJet thrombectomy line of devices and Cotavance products. The Cotavance catheter received CE Mark approval in Europe in 2011. Medrad Interventional is proceeding with the investigational device exemption process toward gaining approval for Cotavance in the United States.
