Medtronic and Cydar Pilot Program Combines Endovascular Aortic Care and AI Technology
April 19, 2022—Medtronic announced it will be conducting a pilot program using the latest augmented intelligence technology from Cydar Medical at up to 40 global sites.
The company stated that this public strategic collaboration in digital endovascular technology seeks to advance aortic patient treatment decisions. Additionally, the pilot program will inform the future development of predictive analytics to support procedure planning by assessing factors such as the risk of endoleaks, sac regression probability, and more.
According to Medtronic, the Cydar EV Maps software harnesses cloud GPU computing, computer vision, and machine learning technology to advance surgical visualization and decision-making in theater and across the care pathway. Cydar EV Maps is currently available in the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom. Cydar EV Maps is certified Software-as-a-Medical Device with FDA 510(k) clearance in the United States and has European CE Mark approval.
The technology enables clinicians to create detailed, patient-specific, three-dimensional maps for procedure planning, image-guided navigation, and postoperative review. These capabilities result in less radiation exposure to the patient and the clinical team, reduced procedure time, and increased delivery confidence, noted Medtronic in the press release.
In the company’s press release, Carolyn Sleeth, VP, General Manager, Aortic at Medtronic, commented, “Medtronic aims to revolutionize endovascular aortic treatment with digital solutions with this phased approach. By collecting data across the patient journey—before, during, and after procedure—our goal is to provide analytic support to make our endovascular stent grafts ‘smart.’”
