MicroVention Sofia EX 5-F, 115-cm Intracranial Support Catheter Cleared for Transradial Access

September 21, 2023—MicroVention, Inc., a neurovascular company and wholly owned subsidiary of Terumo Corporation, announced that the Sofia EX 5-F, 115-cm intracranial support catheter has received FDA 510(k) clearance for transradial access in addition to transfemoral access.

According to the company, the design of the Sofia EX 5-F catheter allows for trackability, and a large inside lumen provides fast and effective tracking to intracranial locations. The device is reinforced with a nitinol coil and stainless-steel braid for support and kink resistance. The catheter has an inner polytetrafluoroethylene liner through the entire length, with 12 transition zones optimized for pushability.

The Sofia EX 5-F radial access clearance marks MicroVention’s first radial access product, noted the company.
