Nfocus Luna Aneurysm Embolization System Approved in Europe

February 15, 2011—Nfocus Neuromedical, Inc. (Palo Alto, CA) announced that its Luna aneurysm embolization system (AES) has received CE Mark approval for treating patients with brain aneurysms in Europe. The Luna AES is designed to be a single-deployment, easy-to-use system for the treatment of brain aneurysms both pre- and postrupture.

According to Nfocus, the Luna AES treats brain aneurysms by embolizing blood flow and providing a scaffold to encourage tissue growth across an aneurysm opening and create a plug. Luna uses a self-expandable, multilayer oval implant made from nitinol. The device is compressed within a conventional catheter and then rapidly and easily opens to its full size once deployed within an aneurysm.
