PAD Performance and Quality Measures Issued by ACC and AHA
January 8, 2026—The American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) have issued the “2026 ACC/AHA Clinical Performance and Quality Measures for Patients With Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD).”
Philip P. Goodney, MD, et al, for the Joint Committee on Performance Measures, published the document in Circulation: Population Health and Outcomes and JACC.
According to the AHA, the document describes performance measures for PAD that are appropriate for public reporting or pay-for-performance programs. The performance measures are selected from the strongest recommendations (class 1 or 3) from the 2024 Guideline for the Management of Lower Extremity Peripheral Artery Disease that was published in May 2024.
The document also provides quality measures, some of which are based on class 2 recommendations. These measures are not yet ready for public reporting or pay-for-performance programs but will be useful to clinicians and health care organizations for quality improvement, noted AHA.
