Penumbra’s Indigo Aspiration System to Be Distributed in Japan by Asahi Intecc

September 22, 2022—Penumbra, Inc. and Asahi Intecc Co. announced that they will collaborate to introduce Penumbra’s Indigo aspiration system into the Japanese market upon regulatory approval.

The minimally invasive Indigo device is used to remove emboli and thrombi from vessels of the peripheral arterial and venous systems, as well as for treatment of pulmonary embolism. It also enables the restoration of blood flow in cases of acute limb ischemia and venous thrombus.

As noted in the press release, Penumbra’s newest-generation offering combines hypotube-based Indigo aspiration catheters with Lightning Intelligent aspiration, which is a computer-aided clot detection technology that can differentiate between clot and blood to reduce blood loss and the need for clot-dissolving drugs.

The press release advised that Penumbra’s neurovascular thrombectomy and neurovascular and peripheral embolization devices will continue to be distributed in Japan by Medico’s Hirata, Inc.
