PERT Consortium Launches PE Centers of Excellence

June 14, 2022—The PERT Consortium announced the creation of PE Centers of Excellence whose mission is to create and disseminate a universal standard of care for the acute and long-term management of patients with pulmonary embolism (PE). According to the PERT Consortium, developer of the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) concept, they are now the largest scientific organization in the world dedicated to the advancement of PE care.

The PERT Consortium will begin accepting applications in the Fall of 2022. Institutions with PERTs may submit a declaration of interest here.

The PE Centers of Excellence will be a collaborative network of institutions with the fundamental goals of improving patient outcomes and safety, promoting and rapidly disseminating recent advances in technology, expanding the world’s largest quality PE database, and using data-driven metrics to more quickly refine PE care.

According to the PERT Consortium, this will be the first and only governing body for certifying competence and quality care in PE.

Becoming a PE Center of Excellence provides value through the standardization of care, requirements for competence assessment, real-time access to a database dashboard for safety and outcomes metrics, and unparalleled collaboration and networking through members of The PERT Consortium.

There will be two tiers of participation: PE Regional Care Centers and PE Comprehensive Care Centers. Each tier will be differentiated primarily by research infrastructure and access to mechanical circulatory support and surgical expertise.

Experts from The PERT Consortium are currently refining the PE Center of Excellence certification process. Updates on the PE Centers of Excellence program will be provided at The PERT Consortium 8th annual scientific symposium held September 29 to October 1, 2022, in Tampa, Florida.
