Reverse Medical Receives CE Mark Approval for MVP Micro Vascular Plug

May 14, 2013—Reverse Medical Corporation (Irvine, CA) announced that the company's MVP microvascular plug system for peripheral artery embolization has been granted CE Mark approval to obstruct or reduce the rate of blood flow in the peripheral vasculature.

On May 1, the MVP system was introduced during the GEST 2013: Global Embolization Symposium and Technologies conference in Prague, Czech Republic, by GEST co-chairman Jafar Golzarian, MD. The initial clinical cases using the device that were presented at the meeting were performed by GEST cochairman Marc Sapoval, MD, Olivier Pellerin, MD, and Geert Maleux, MD.

Commenting on their MVP system experiences in the company's press release, Drs. Sapoval and Pellerin stated, “The MVP represents a unique advancement for the interventional radiologist as being microcatheter deliverable to select distal targets in tortuous anatomy and is completely resheathable for repositioning if needed, or for procedures where temporary occlusion or flow reduction might be necessary.”

Dr. Maleux added, “In addition to the breakthrough deliverability and resheathability, the device demonstrated consistent evidence of immediate vessel occlusion.”

Dr. Golzarian concluded, “The MVP system is a game changer, has multiple clinical applications for embolization procedures, and based on evidence of immediate occlusion from a single implant, it is cost efficient.”
