SCAI and Regulatory Relief Coalition Address Impact of CMS Prior Authorization Requirements on Patient Access
March 10, 2022—The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) announced that the Regulatory Relief Coalition has submitted written comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding the impact of Prior Authorization requirements on patient access.
The Regulatory Relief Coalition is composed of 15 professional medical specialty societies, including SCAI. SCAI provided the coalition’s complete letter online.
The letter urged CMS to improve the process to remove unnecessary barriers to health care services to Medicare Advantage enrollees. The coalition aims to ensure that Prior Authorization is not a barrier to timely access to care for patients, especially in the wake of challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to SCAI, the comments were in response to the CMS Proposed Rule, “Medicare Program; Contract Year 2023 Policy and Technical Changes to the Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Programs” published January 12, 2022 in the Federal Register.
